Analogous colors and marks.
Twilight
Trees at twilight. The light was behind me and there was just a moment when the tops of everything turned bright orange, and then it got dark.
Sunset
Working from earlier pastel sketches, I'm starting to paint less specifically with more interest in warm and cool colors and darks and lights. Also I'm experimenting with making marks.
Pastel sketch of spring daffodils in preparation for a painting. When I started painting I swore I wouldn't paint sunsets or flowers. So much for that resolution,.I've done both. I find the luscious colors and the play of light on petals to be irresistible and endlessly challenging. I keep looking at Stanley Bielen's flowers to remind myself to keep it simple and that's it's about the paint not the flowers.
